Story Circle Journal

...a newsletter for women with stories to tell

"What makes someone a writer? Writers write. Creative writers write and cultivate creativity. The urge to tell a story or shape a poem is a calling. To act on the urge is to answer that calling."
—Bonni Goldberg

The Story Circle Journal is a quarterly newsletter, published in March, June, September, and December. It is written by and for women with stories to tell. It is designed to encourage readers to become writers, guide women to set down their true stories, support women's creativity, and make possible the sharing of women's lives. It is created for you.

In each Story Circle Journal, we will publish your contributions of poetry and prose, published or unpublished. We look forward to reading your work, and including the best of it in the Journal. We publish only members' writings. If you are interested in submitting your writing to the Journal, please read our Writers' Guidelines.

Each 16-28 page issue of the Journal includes ideas for writing chapters of your life's story, reviews of helpful books, readers' writings, news about the on-going growth of the Story Circle Network, notes from Story Circles around the country, and a calendar of coming events. Topics from a few of our recent newsletters:

  • news about the Network's first national conference
  • an article on journaling
  • an article called "Write Through Pain," about the therapeutic value of lifewriting
  • a true story about a reader's difficult relationship with her mother
  • an interview with Ann Linnea, author of the memoir Deep Water Passage
  • reviews of recent books by women
  • "True Words from Real Women," a collection of poetry and prose written by readers
  • stories by the winners of the Carol Landherr LifeWriting Competition
  • LifeWriting Tips
  • a roundup of notes from Story Circles around the country and on-line
  • news about lifewriting markets: publications that invite submissions by memoirists

The Story Circle Journal connects you with a growing network of women who are committed to exploring and enriching their lives through writing and sharing.
